iPhone iOS 4.2.1 Jailbreak - greenpois0n rc5

This has been out for MAC users for quite a while and recently for Windows users. I have been using it for a couple of weeks and greenpois0n rc5.4 is definitely stable. For users that are new to jailbreaking, let me assure you that it is really quite simple as long as you follow the steps.

There is the myth that you will void your warranty once you jailbreak. Let me tell you that I have exchange my iPhone 1 for 1 at my mobile shop without any issues. Simply connect your phone to iTunes and set it back to factory default and they will not know that you have jailbreak it.

So for new users, this greenpois0n rc5.4 is a must have. Jailbreak your iphone/ipad and explore the true meaning of mobile computing!

Get this before iOS 4.3 is out!! It will be out soon so upgrade now if you dont want to go thru the hassle of downgrading your version.

Make sure to backup your applications first. Go to iTunes and sync all the applications. Also Right click on your iPhone and select "Transfer Purchases" to properly sync all applications.

Only for the tech savvies!

Things you will need:

• iPhone/iPad with iOS 4.2.1 (important)
• greenpois0n rc5.4 [download from official site]
• USB cable

1.  Switch off your device.
2. Connect USB cable to your computer.
3. Make sure iTunes is NOT running.
4. Open greenpois0n
5. Click Jailbreak and follow the instructions. 
6. If you do not know the difference between sleep button and home button, throw your device into the bin or give it to me. :p  Ok, sleep is the power button, home is the circle button with the square symbol.
7. Once it is installing, jailbreaking your device, do NOT plug out or do anything. Just wait patiently for the device to reboot itself.
8. Once done, device will reboot and you will see a LOADER app 
9. Click that LOADER, click CYDIA and select Install Cydia.
10. Now, wait till Cydia is installed and you should see the Cydia App Icon. 
11. Done, your device is jailbroken. Have fun! Installous is definitely one of the first few awesome stuff you want to install. 

Some people were emailing me about how to get apps, so what you want to do is go into Cydia, Manage Sources and add http://cydia.hackulo.us
Then download Installous 4 and in future, get your apps from Installous instead of app store - for free.

We're pleased to announce the release of Installous 3.0.1. It's the first public release of Installous 3, which was previously only available to our Advancements users (after donations) during its beta testing phase.

Installous is relatively stable, but there are a couple caveats which you must take note of.

• Native Installation has a small bug in which installations report completion a little early on older devices (iPhone 2G, iPod 2G, etc.). More specifically, older processors. We're not entirely sure why yet, and it's the reason why were we absurdly delayed in the public release. It is the default installation option, since most of our users are on newer devices. But if you're on an older device and you're installing a huge app, we suggest changing to bash installation in the settings tab by turning off native installation.
• AppSync is required for this. Either 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, or 4.0 (which doesn't exist yet, but still).
• It seems like the first time some people run it, it will not connect to apptrackr properly or something. Restart springboard or your entire device, and the problem shouldn't persist. We'll figure out what's wrong later.

HOW DO I GET IT?

If you already have Installous from our repo installed, Installous 3 should come as an update. Upgrade to the latest version.

If you do not have Installous 3 yet, follow these steps:

• Add http://cydia.hackulo.us/ to your Cydia sources list on your iDevice.
• Search for Installous.
• Install!

All you iPhone users with the latest Bootrom who was only able to get untethered jailbreak can now rejoice! "Spirit" has been launched and it works with any iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch on firmware 3.1.2, 3.1.3, or 3.2.

This is also for iPhone with the LATEST BOOTROM. Current versions of blackra1n and redsnow and pwntoolz and etc all still do not have a untethered jailbreak for the latest bootrom. Although geohotz has shown that he has done it, he has not released it yet and Spirit is the only 1 that has released it.

How to jailbreak your iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad with Spirit

Step 1: Download Spirit from the link above
Step 2: Make sure you have at least version 9 of iTunes.
Step 3: Back up your iPhone, iTouch or iPad in iTunes, just in case something goes wrong.
Step 4: Launch Spirit.

Step 5: Click “Jailbreak”.
Step 6: Wait just a few seconds until you see this image:

Step 7: Your iPhone will reboot and you should have the Cydia icon on your springboard.

Errors & Troubleshooting

Windows Vista or Windows 7 users may get the error c0000005.
To avoid this error, you have to run Spirit.exe in compatibility mode. To do so:

• Right click on Spirit.exe and select Properties
• Select the compatibility tab
• Check the “Run this program in compatibility mode for” box and select Windows 98 / Windows ME

iPhone 3GS

Finally got a new handphone today! =D
My previous handphone had been giving me problems for a couple of months and the battery life kinda drains away quick so why not splurge a bit on an iPhone 3GS (in white!). The phone is great due to the zillions of applications out there where you can easily download to your phone via iTunes or App Store. Will be able to check on my mails and this site more frequently now i guess as my mobile plan comes with a 12GB data access.


For iPhone users out there! Let's hope geohot gets started on blackra1n RC4! So we can transform our handphone into a true-blue palm-mac. I will probably released a step by step guide for new iPhone users who wants to jailbreak their phone without having to re-jailbreak everytime the phone is switched off.
